Gingivitis is inflammation of the gums. Its main sign is bleeding thereof. It is caused by poor brushing, which does not eliminate bacteria deposited on the tooth.
Gingivitis is reversible: through a dental cleaning and proper hygiene instructions can prevent progression of gingivitis to periodontitis
Periodontitis: is a bacterial infection that affects the gums but also the supporting structure of the tooth (bone and periodontal ligament)
The bacteria produce toxins that inflame and weaken the gums, can cause tooth loss. Therefore it is important to visit the dentist regularly since periodontitis is virtually asymptomatic patient.
